چکیده

Petroleum reservoir modelling requires effective multiscale methods for the numerical simulation of two-phase flow in porous media. This paper proposes the application of a novel meshfree particle method to the Buckley-Leverett model. The utilized meshfree advection scheme, called AMMoC, is essentially a method of characteristics, which combines an adaptive semi-Lagrangian method with local meshfree interpolation by polyharmonic splines. The method AMMoC is applied to the five-spot problem, a well-established model problem in petroleum reservoir simulation. The numerical results and subsequent numerical comparisons with two leading commercial reservoir simulators, ECLIPSE and FrontSim, show the good performance of our meshfree advection scheme AMMoC.

Adaptive Meshfree Method of Backward Characteristics for Nonlinear Transport Equations

In previous work, a new adaptive meshfree advection scheme for numerically solving linear transport equations has been proposed. The scheme, being a combination of an adaptive semi-Lagrangian method and local radial basis function interpolation, is essentially a method of backward characteristics. The adaptivity of the meshfree advection scheme relies on customized rules for the refinement and ...

An Adaptive Meshfree Galerkin Method for the Three-dimensional Thermo-mechanical Flow Simulation of Friction Stir Welding Process

In this paper, new numerical modeling of material flow in the thermo-mechanical friction stir welding process is presented. In this numerical model, the discretization in space is derived by the meshfree Galerkin method using a Lagrangian meshfree convex approximation. The discrete thermal and mechanical equations are weakly coupled as the time advances using a forward difference scheme. A mort...

The Indication of Two-Phase Flow Pattern and Slug Characteristics in a Pipeline Using CFD Method

Multiphase flows are commonly encountered in oil and gas industries. The transport of multiphase flow causes the formation of slug, the increase of pressure drop and the possibility of phase changes therefore, a set of simulation runs was performed to predict flow regimes in a horizontal pipeline, and the results were compared with the Baker chart. The effects of small downward inclinations of ...

Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamics of a Two-Dimensional Gas—Solid Fluidized Bed by New Finite Volume Based Finite Element Method

n this work, computational fluid dynamics of the flow behavior in a cold flow of fluidized bed is studied. An improved finite volume based finite element method has been introduced to solve the two-phase gas/solid flow hydrodynamic equations. This method uses a collocated grid, where all variables are located at the nodal points. The fluid dynamic model for gas/solid two-phase flow is based on ...

Viscous Models Comparison in Water Impact of Twin 2D Falling Wedges Simulation by Different Numerical Solvers

In this paper, symmetric water entry of twin wedges is investigated for deadrise angle of 30 degree. Three numerical simulation of a symmetric impact, considering rigid body dynamic equations of motion in two-phase flow is presented. The two-phase flow around the wedges is solved by Finite Element based on Finite Volume method (FEM-FVM) which is used in conjunction with Volume of Fluid (VOF) sc...
